    I like this neighborhood as a base camp better than Chinatown (too far south), Little India (too far north), Orchard Road (too far west), Marina Bay (too far southeast), and Sentosa (forget about it!

    You also have not one but three MRT stops # Bugis, Dhoby Ghaut, and Bras Basah ) all less than 10 minutes walk away, so can get out and explore any part of the island you wish with ease.
